Hello and welcome to The House & Homestead! I’m so glad that you’re here 🙂
Let’s get to know each other
As a self-taught, modern homesteader who began the journey toward self-sufficiency while I was still a condo-dwelling city girl, I am living proof that anyone can begin homesteading wherever they are.
Regardless of space, time, money or circumstance, you too can begin living a simpler, more sustainable and self-reliant lifestyle today. All you need to do is take the next (or first) step, and I will be here to help guide and support you on your own journey.

What you will find on this blog
The homestead lifestyle is all about getting back to basics: cooking from scratch, growing food, preserving the harvest, homemaking, living frugally, making things by hand, living close to the land, putting family first and being prepared. On this blog you will find tips, tutorials, recipes and articles related to these topics and more.
For from-scratch recipes, food preservation techniques and DIY home and body product tutorials, check out the Kitchen category in the navigation bar.
For tips on growing food, medicinal herbs and flowers, foraging and general gardening know-how (as well as what not to do), check out the Garden category.
You’ll find everything else, including posts about parenting, prepping, frugal living and life on the homestead under the Family Room category.
If you’d like to work with me or get in touch for any reason, please use the form on my Contact page. I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible!
What this blog is not
This blog is not a substitute for professional or medical advice. I am not a doctor, a financial advisor or a health professional. I don’t proclaim to be an expert on any of the subject matter you’ll find on this blog.
I’m a self-taught, amateur homesteader and I am excited to share my wisdom and knowledge (as well as my struggles and learning curves) with you. But I do not take responsibility for any actions taken in response to any advice given on this blog.
I can only speak for what works for me, and as we all know, what might be right for you (or me), might not be right for some. Please use good judgment and common sense when following tutorials or taking advice of any kind. That goes for every aspect of life, not just this blog!
