When my great, great grandmother (baba) first came to this country from Eastern Europe, she had to take the cooking skills she learned back home in the Ukraine and adapt them to work with the new ingredients she found here in Canada.
One of her recipes that has stood the test of time are her famous plum buns. Passed down from my baba for 4 generations, this treat has been a family secret for more than 100 years… Until now.
Made with sweet prune plums that are coated in sugar, wrapped in scratch-made sweet bread dough and then baked to golden perfection, these are best eaten right out of the oven, but they also make a great freezer meal!
Enjoy a batch while plums are in season (and freeze a batch or two more for the winter. They make an excellent Christmas morning treat!)
